Join the Movement to Honour Lives Taken, Support Bereaved Families & Fight for Safer Roads. 1,624 lives were taken on UK roads in 2024. That is 1,624 families shattered, countless futures stolen, and a tragic reminder that road crashes devastate lives every single day.
This May, RoadPeace, the national charity for road crash victims, is calling on the public to walk, run, or cycle 1,624 miles as a powerful act of remembrance and a rallying call for safer roads. The RoadPeace Challenge 2025 takes place from May 12-18, 2025, during UN Global Road Safety Week, bringing together families, friends, emergency services, and communities to stand in solidarity with those who have lost loved ones and those living with life-changing injuries.
"This challenge is more than just numbers—it represents real people, real families, and real heartbreak," said Howard Jones, CEO of RoadPeace. "Every mile covered is a tribute to a life taken, a step towards change, and a symbol of our unwavering commitment to supporting those left behind. We cannot bring back those whose lives were taken, but together, we can ensure that no bereaved family has to suffer alone.”
A Challenge of Remembrance, A Challenge of Change. The RoadPeace Challenge 2025 invites people of all abilities to take part in a way that suits them—whether it’s walking a single mile in quiet remembrance, running a marathon, or cycling with a team of colleagues. Participants can sign up as individuals, join a group, or take part alongside police, fire, and NHS teams, who will be covering miles in honour of those they have tried to save.
Every step, every mile, every moment of effort will help RoadPeace continue its vital work—providing support for bereaved families, guiding them through the justice system, and ensuring that victims’ voices are heard. Our services offer emotional and practical support, from crisis helplines and bereavement resources to peer-led support groups and legal advocacy. With the generosity of our supporters, we can continue to stand alongside those affected by road crashes, helping them navigate their journey toward justice and healing.
1,624 Miles, 7 Days, 7 Ways to Support Victims. Each day of the challenge will focus on one of RoadPeace’s critical support services, sharing the voices of those who have been helped by the charity and reminding people why fundraising is so important: May 12 – Helpline: The first call, the first step—providing comfort and guidance to families in crisis.
May 13 – Regional Groups: A space for those who have lost loved ones to find strength in each other.
May 14 – National Groups: Giving victims and survivors a voice on a national scale.
May 15 – Resilience Building: Helping families navigate the long road to healing.
May 16 – Befrienders: A lifeline of support from those who have walked the same painful path.
May 17 – Navigating the Justice System: Fighting for fairness, accountability and change for road crash victims.
May 18 – Remembrance: A moment to pause, reflect, and honour those we have lost.
"Each day of this challenge shines a light on a service that changes lives," added Howard Jones. "Behind every statistic is a story, a family, a grief that never fades. By taking part, you help us ensure that no one faces this journey alone."

A Call to Our Communities This year, RoadPeace is calling on emergency service teams, businesses and community groups to lead the way in fundraising and awareness. Firefighters, police officers, and NHS workers can take part, covering miles in memory of those they have responded directly to.
Workplace teams can challenge each other in workplace fundraising battles to see who can raise the most.
Schools and universities can hold local walks and runs to educate young people on road safety.

"We need the nation to stand with us," said Howard Jones, CEO of RoadPeace. "Walk for those who no longer can. Run for those whose lives were stolen. Ride for those who should still be here. We are committed to driving meaningful change, and our mission is clear — to achieve Vision Zero, where no one is killed or seriously injured on our roads. Through our sustained policy advocacy and engagement with legislators, we are working to strengthen road safety laws, create safer streets, deliver justice for victims, and prevent further loss of life." RoadPeace invites participants to share their journeys, dedicate their miles to loved ones, and spread awareness using #RoadPeaceChallenge2025.
